After dispersing Ohio and Vanderbilt, Marquette got 17 points from Marcus Washington and a double-double from Bo Ellis to beat Michigan 72-70.  That victory earned Marquette its first trip to the Final Four.  Waiting for them in the National Semifinal was college basketball blue-blood Kansas.  They were no match for Marquette who cruised past the Jayhawks by 13 points. 

Even in a loss to N.C. State in the National Title the 1973-1974 Marquette team set the foundation for their title run in '77.
